Research & Scholarly Activity Poster Contest

The Cleveland Academy of Osteopathic Medicine (CAOM) provides support to reward osteopathic medical students, interns, residents, and fellows for meeting a higher standard in developing scholarly activities and research.  These academic achievements will be recognized for each level of training and offer recognition for multiple categories to complete a research project and promote scholarly activity. 

We provide student, intern, resident, and fellow members the opportunity to present scholarly activity in order to develop professionally and contribute to the osteopathic profession.  The CAOM Research Award Committee will identify selected contest winners who be invited to present their poster at CAOM's 59th Annual Winter Conference and are expected to present their research during the conference (see Events page for details). The applicants mentor or attending physician is strongly recommended to attend. Winners will be announced in December.

Who: Osteopathic Medical Students, Interns, Residents, or Fellows
Region: In medical school or training programs located within Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, or Lorain counties
Poster Submission Deadline: November 10, 2023

Who May Apply:

Osteopathic medical students, interns, residents and fellows who are in programs located in the Cleveland District (District 7) of the Ohio Osteopathic Association which covers Cuyahoga, Geauga, Ashtabula, Lorain and Lake counties.

  • Intern/Resident: 1st/2nd/3rd & honorable mention
  • Fellow:1st/2nd/3rd & honorable mention

The number of contributors awarded honorable mention will be at the discretion of the CAOM Research Award Committee.

Executive Committee Reserves the right to adjust categories based on the number of submissions.

Award per level of training:

  • 1st = $150 & Certificate
  • 2nd = $100 & Certificate
  • 3rd = $50 & Certificate
  • Honorable mention: Certificate

The primary author will receive the monetary award.

All submitted posters are reviewed by the CAOM Research Award Committee and other designated CAOM members to determine the best poster.

Poster Requirement

  • Poster must be a single slide CLICK HERE for poster template.
  • More than one author may participate with each poster entry, but each author must verify that they did have significant participation in the development of the poster. Only the primary author will receive the monetary award and certificate.
  • The CAOM Research Award Committee will identify the winners who will present their research at the CAOM Winter Conference.

All submitted abstracts are reviewed by the CAOM Executive Committee and designated CAOM members to determine the best abstracts. There are several acceptable formats that may be used when submitting your research abstract.

Student Advocate Award

Nominations open Summer 2024

 

 
Since 2004, the Cleveland Academy of Osteopathic Medicine (CAOM) has provided an annual Student Advocate Scholarship Award to honor an exemplary medical student who exhibits passion for osteopathic medicine and the osteopathic profession in northeast Ohio.   
 
The award recipient will be invited to serve as the student representative to the Executive Committee of CAOM, will be formally recognized at the CAOM Annual Winter Conference, and will receive a stipend to attend the Ohio Osteopathic Association (OOA) House of Delegates Annual Meeting held during the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium.  The stipend will be for the student’s mileage, lodging, and meals while attending the House of Delegates.  
 
CAOM member hospitals are eligible to nominate student recipients.  The Directors of Medical Education (DME’s), Associate Dean to the Graduate Medical Education or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or administrative staff and fellow students will submit candidates' names and contact information to the CAOM Executive Committee on or before November 11 via our website.
 
To be eligible for this award, the candidate must be a third or fourth-year osteopathic medical student on clinical rotation at one of the CAOM member hospitals and exemplify passion and advocacy for osteopathic medicine and the osteopathic profession.
 
Nominees will be asked to submit a short paragraph about themselves and why they are interested in the award.  The winners will be notified before December 19.

Who May Win: Third or fourth year osteopathic medical students on clinical rotation at one of the CAOM member hospitals

Lifetime Achievement Award

The Cleveland Academy of Osteopathic Medicine Lifetime Achievement Award, which began in 2015, is granted to deserving individual(s) that have had a lifetime of contributions to the osteopathic profession with a positive impact on the communities in NE Ohio.
