Active Transportation & Environmental Planner

Pay Range: $47,671 - $62,305

Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to join our team to fill the Active Transportation & Environmental Planner position. The Active Transportation & Environmental Planner is an integral part of the Regional Environment & Economic Development division; developing and coordinating activities associated with bike and pedestrian transportation, air, and water quality planning. The Active Transportation & Environmental Planner collects, maintains, and analyzes data related to transportation and land use in a GIS environment. The planner is the lead coordinator of the regional trails system; the nation’s largest paved trail network, https://www.miamivalleytrails.org/ .


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Coordinates the regional bike and pedestrian transportation planning processes, including stakeholder and public involvement activities and coordination with local jurisdictions and regulatory agencies.

• Supports the Water Quality Management Program, including both surface and groundwater management by participating in work program activities and special projects funded from a variety of sources.

• Supports air quality planning activities, through alternative transportation options and programming, in coordination with MVRPC Rideshare Program/Gohio Commute and Mobility Managers

• Collects, maintains, and analyzes transportation and land use data under a GIS environment.

• Performs technical data analysis and report writing, and effectively summarizes the data for presentations.

• Provides internal GIS support to the Regional Environment and Economic Development team.

• Participates in the development and presentation of findings and recommendations to various groups and committees.

• Responds to internal and external requests for data and related information.

Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission is looking for a candidate who possesses knowledge and interest in transportation and land use planning; skills in the use of GIS software (ArcMap); knowledge of environmental sciences, including a general understanding of water systems and air quality; demonstrated experience with research and technical writing; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products; effective oral/written presentation skills and the ability to work effectively with the public.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, urban studies, environmental sciences, geography, or a related field and related experience. A minimum of two (2) years of related experience with a public entity is preferred.

The salary and job title will be determined commensurate with education and experience. The salary range is $47,671 - $62,305.
