R-22 Phaseout Featured Question & Resources
Is there a chance HFC refrigerants such as R-410A will be phased out too?

Q. Is there a chance HFC refrigerants such as R-410A will be phased out too?
A.
There is a chance. The U.S. Congress and the international community are considering several proposals to phase down (not phase-out) HFC substances such as refrigerants due to their high global warming potential, with the earliest proposed starting date of 2012 and gradual reductions through 2040, but nothing is certain at this time.

The two rules recently finalized by the EPA for the 2010-2014 stage of HCFC phaseout in the U.S. work together to create complicated and often confusing regulations regarding what manufacturers, distributors, and contractors can and cannot do with HCFC refrigerants like R-22 and R-142b, and the products that use them.

HARDI believes it is extremely important that the correct information gets out to the contractor community as quickly as possible and that HARDI distributors are the best deliverers of this information.

Last week HARDI provided members with resources to help them navigate these complicated and confusing issues including:

1. An audio recording of December 14th’s HARDI teleseminar summary of the final rules
2. The revised and updated handout that accompanies the audio presentation
3. A one-page Fact Sheet and a one-page Frequently Asked Question sheet (Distributors only – designed to be personalized and distributed to their customers.)
4. A PowerPoint presentation complete with “presenter notes” (Distributors only – developed to assist them with customer training sessions.)
